I started a new brand page just for fun and experiment called “Viajero Existencial”. I will be posting content about Philosophy, Psychology and Sociology. Content is published in my native language Spanish.
I read alot of books yearly, thus I decided to make some “wisdom pills” extracted from what I read and perhaps can ignite people spark to start reading a certain topic.
In this new world where reels and short format is the king of distraction, if I make people grab a book after watching some of these content, I already win.
Description below is the one I used to describe Kierkegaard Leap of Faith meaning translated from Spanish to English. Although he did not coined this phrase, he’s been attributed to popularize it through the meaning of his legacy and works published.
Overthinking is often interpreted as an exercise in rationality, when in reality it can be a form of avoidance. Far from leading to clarity, excessive analysis tends to fragment experience into multiple possible scenarios, resulting in decision-making paralysis.
In this regard, Søren Kierkegaard’s reflection is particularly relevant. In describing anxiety as the “vertigo of freedom,” the philosopher points out that the possibility of choice simultaneously implies the possibility of error. This tension between freedom and responsibility can lead to a suspension of action.
In response to this, Kierkegaard introduces the notion of the “leap of faith,” not as an irrational act, but as a decision that acknowledges the limits of knowledge and the impossibility of achieving absolute certainty before acting. From a contemporary perspective, this phenomenon relates to what psychology calls “analysis-paralysis”: a state in which excessive deliberation inhibits action.
Thus, the decision does not emerge from prior clarity; rather, in many cases, it is the action itself that makes the construction of meaning possible. Consequently, the problem does not lie in thinking too much, but in attempting to resolve uncertainty exclusively through thought.
